John Murtagh is serving his second term as an elected member of the Yonkers City Council, winning re-election with 67%.

John is also an Adjunct Professor of Law and Public Policy at the Fordham University College of Liberal Studies.

A graduate of Fordham College (B.A. 1982) and the Fordham University School of Law (J.D. 1986) John co-founded his own law practice in Westchester in 1994, emphasizing liability defense as well as the resolution of commercial and business disputes. In 2005 he established an office in Yonkers.

John served for eight years on the board of a local women's shelter and currently serves on the Executive Board of the Westchester Putnam Council, Boy Scouts of America and the Beczak Environmental Center.

 

John is married to Margaret Mangan Murtagh, the Director of the Reformed Church Nursery School in Bronxville.

They have two sons: John, age 21, is entering his senior year at Boston College and James, age 16, will be a junior at Fordham Preparatory School.

The Murtaghs have a Springer Spaniel named Seamus, and a Golden Retriever named Tess.
