Property Taxes

Property taxes alone account for almost 79% of all local taxes in NYS. Caps for towns and villages is a good start, but John wants Albany to eliminate unfunded state mandates that drive up local costs.

Better Schools

John exposed the School Hiring Scandal in Yonkers. He wants to see education dollars spent where they are needed most: in the classroom.

Responsible Development

John opposed the original Ridge Hill plan because it didn't give taxpayers a fair shake. And when the original plan threatened neighboring Greenburgh, Murtagh sued his own city, and won.

The Environment

John wrote the law banning gasoline-power leaf blowers during the summer. He is now working to enact laws to mandate all new construction meet or exceed Green Building certification requirments..

Reforming Albany

As a private citizen, John led the fight for term limits in Yonkers. As a Councilman, he wrote the toughest ethics code in New York State. As our new Senator, John will fight to fix Albany and make state government accountable to the people.
